Republican Tompkins County legislator Mike Sigler is slated to run against incumbent Democrat Lea Webb for the state Senate District 52 seat.
Tompkins County Legislator Mike Sigler launched a campaign for the 52nd District State Senate seat at an event at the Sons of Italy in Endicott in late January, saying he will run against incumbent New York State Senator Lea Webb, “who narrowly won with a 51-49 margin in one of the State’s closest races in 2022,” the Sigler campaign says.

Approximately 100 supporters gathered at the Sons of Italy in Endicott to rally behind Sigler, who has 14 years of experience on the county legislature. Sigler identifies as a moderate Republican and wasted no time in articulating his vision, emphasizing the need to address issues ranging from violent crime, drug-related fatalities, increasing taxes, and an exodus of jobs to other states.
The New York State Union of Police Associations (NYSUPA) has announced their endorsement for Mike Sigler in the race for the New York State Senate 52nd district. The NYSUPA is known for advocating for the rights and well being of public safety officers, including sheriffs, corrections, police, and dispatchers.

Sigler is running in the 52nd district, which encompasses most of Broome County and all of Cortland and Tompkins counties. The seat is currently held by Democrat Lea Webb, who narrowly won by a 51 to 49 margin against Republican and former Binghamton Mayor Rich David, in one of the state’s closest races in 2022. Sigler was endorsed by Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar.

A county in which Webb won by a landslide two years ago, over 70 percent of the vote, enough to narrowly beat former Binghamton mayor Rich David. David won Broome and Cortland counties.
