FIGHTING THE DRUG EPIDEMIC

I’ve seen the horrors of drug addiction first hand. Loved ones who won’t get out of bed, have given up on everything except timing when they can take their next dose. It can start so slowly and build until one day the person you knew isn’t there any more and it’s hard to find a way forward because you don’t know how you got there in the first place. This is not just a drug crisis. It’s a mental health crisis. The nation is self-medicating. Many have lost purpose, have lost their footing with no roots to tie them to the community, their families, or friends. It doesn’t have to be this way. Many just don’t know where to start. We need to give them that beginning. It will ultimately be up to them to deal with their mental illness and/or drug dependency, but we need to give them that first hand hold. These are our brothers, sisters, wives, husbands, parents, friends. The dealers that are pushing these high-power drugs must be stopped as part of the solution. We must block the importation of synthetic drug substances, and track down oversees drug lords.
