The 22^nd district will be known for higher education with more than a dozen colleges and universities calling the district home. Syracuse University, Cornell University, Le Moyne College, Ithaca College, Onondaga Community College, Cayuga Community College, Tompkins/Cortland Community College, SUNY Cortland, SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, SUNY Upstate Medical University, Wells College, Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Cazenovia College, St. Joseph’s College of Nursing, Finger lakes Health College of Nursing and Health Sciences, New York Chiropractic College, BOCES, all serving to educate those who will be running the country. But it doesn’t stop there. Our trade schools and union apprenticeship programs are teaching new people how to keep the country running, fix what’s broken, and create new solutions. We are a district of innovators. As your congressmen, I will apply that innovation across the district and take it to Washington to solve the nation’s problems. What may seem like a small idea can have enormous impacts. In Auburn, the city has restored two dams and they now generate hydro electric power. That energy was being wasted before, but is now generating hundreds of thousands of dollars in revenue offsetting taxes. The idea came from local people, our people. I’ll seek out those ideas and put them into practice.
